8 Days Old (June 2, 2004)

I am bottle feeding a little girl.  I have been calling her Angel.  She was the last to be born and is the smallest out of the pups.  She is maybe 1/2 the size of the rest, but has already attached herself to me and to my heart.  It has been a struggle, but we have managed to survive 8 days now.  The puppies are close to getting their eyes open now and soon their ears will follow.  Sierra is an excellent mother and by looking at these little chubby bellies, it is easy to see.  These puppies will be anywhere from a blonde to a medium blonde.  However, little Angel was way to small to even latch on to mommies nipples and drink, so she got to come inside and have a chance at life.  She was brought in here when she was just 3 hours old and when I offered her a bottle, she latched right on!  We are still not out of the woods yet, but I foresee a wonderful little puppy out of her!

I have had several people make inquiries on Angel, concerned if she has made it or not.  Well, Angel is wonderful.  She is drinking really well.  Though her siblings have their teeth, she still does not have hers.  She is about 5 to 6 days behind the other puppies, but doesn't seem to have any health problems and definitely nothing wrong with her appetite!!!!  She still snuggles with her tigger, but now she is larger than he is.  She seems to think that this is one of her litter mates.  She is for sure a full blooded retriever, because she uses her nose a lot!  When I walk into the room, that nose starts sniffing the air and she can tell that I am there and starts to whine.  She has grown so much now that she graduated  from a little box to a laundry basket and now to a very large box, to give her more room to strengthen those little leg muscles.  This precious little puppy has stolen my heart, 100%.  I have decided that I CANNOT let her leave here, so she has now become the princess of the house! (The hubby thinks that I should find her a home, but why-she already has one!)  Angel had lost most of her hair on her belly and on her legs, but with time it is now growing back.  She almost looks like she has a Mohawk hair do!  She has now been playing on the floor with the other dogs in the house and our one mother Dachshund Roxy has once again adopted another puppy and this is Angel.  Roxy does not have any puppies right now, but every time that I have to bottle feed any of the puppies, she seems to think that she is the mother of them and will go as far as growling and fighting with the other dogs when they get too close to her.  I will continue to update pictures of Angel, as I seem to take them almost on a daily basis anymore.

June 27th, 2004.

Well my little Princess,  Angel is now almost 7 weeks old and is 100% puppy.  She loves playing with the other dogs in the house, though they are bigger than she is.  She has now been totally off of the bottle for a little over a week and is now eating her hard puppy food even without water now.  She lets us know when she has to potty, she starts crying to get out of her kennel. (Which by that way is in the living room where I can see her all of the time!) We take her outside and she goes to the bathroom and like any little puppy, she does have accidents, but she sure tries to let us know when she has to potty!  She has already learned what the word "NO" means and she doesn't like that word too much, so she tries not to get into to much trouble.  When we are outside, she is starting to wander away from us a little farther.  She tries playing with out cats and loves to follow my Standard Poodle puppy Goliath around!  They have become very good friends, she licks his eyes and he licks hers.  They give each other kisses all of the time.  She pulls on the hair on his legs and he just picks up his feet and tries to walk away from her, but she doesn't let him get to far out of her sight! Here are a couple of new pictures of her.  Keep checking in, as I will update this more.

Angel is doing wonderful.  She is eating dry food now, without water added.  She runs, jumps and plays when she is taken outside.  She loves to pick up sticks and carry them around with her!  She is about 90% house broke already and is only 8wks old!  I think that is awesome!  When she has to potty, she starts yipping and whining until I will pick her up and take her outside, usually she does her duty and then runs around for the next 15 minutes or so!!  I worry about Angel, as if she were one of my children (she kind of is).  She gets really jealous when I play with any of the other dogs.  She loves to play with hair and pull on it, just like she would her mothers, except I tell her "No."  Well, keep an eye on Angels page, as pictures will be updated occasionally!
